It’s been overwhelming. We are half way through our run and I have never been so moved. Let’s hope the play can ignite the debate about LGBTQI equality and an end to hate rape.
Category: I Stand Corrected
I am drama student and Brunel University in West London and currently writing my dissertation on the ways that gender and sexuality affect the protagonist’s identity in specific theatrical performances.
I have chosen to use “I Stand Corrected” as my main Case-study as I found the performance particularly empowering. I would firstly like to congratulate you on your performance!
Secondly, would you mind If I sent you a few short questions regarding the performance?
I understand you must be busy with teaching and performing but I would be extremely grateful for your help.
I look forward to your email.
… watching you and Mamela Nyamza at the Soweto theatre was particularly moving. I don’t think you fully realise how brave you are, how brave Mamela is. The play is confrontational, direct, proud, demanding of truth and forthright discussion. It is a fist slammed on the table in indignation at those who dare to imagine their words and ideas have no ramifications and horrifying consequences. Those who speak against the rights of others to love, all the while clutching a bible against their chest, are ultimately responsible to those who die and suffer at the hands of their violent prejudice.
